I watched the Dead Zone movie long before I read the book. And that was a shame for me, because I really enjoyed the book but the movie does stick fairly close to the book. There were a few minor changes, nothing major. I recommend you read the book first.

The Dead Zone (1983) - Rotten Tomatoes.

The Dead Zone, Stephen King, Viking, 1979, 426 pp. The Dead Zone is not the most profound book, nor is it based on the most original idea. Stephen King does not have a reputation as a prose stylist. And since this book was published, the psychic with a Cassandra complex has been used almost everywhere. TV shows, other horror novels, movies. And to all of this, I say: so what? The Dead Zone has.Launched in 2007 as Omnivoracious (“Hungry for the next good book”), the Amazon Book Review has served as the place for the Amazon Books editors to talk about our passions for fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks, kids’ books, mysteries, romance, and science fiction. I just started Stephen King's The Dead Zone a few days ago and am only half way through it. Still, I thought I should just write a little review so far. I am totally wrapped in this book. I have been reading Stephen King for over 15 years now (still only halfway through his mass collection) and have found 90% of his books addictive to say the least. I tend to prefer his non-horror books which.

The Dead Zone is, in fact, the first Stephen King novel I've read and I was very pleasantly surprised. The plotting and writing were much better than I had expected them to be. Although King is generally listed as a horror novelist when he isn't listed as a bestseller, the novel did not really have any horrific elements to it. Purchase this book in hardcover from. Stephen King's fan-favourite thriller. Also available in audio for the first time, read by Academy Award nominee James Franco. The two things that conjured up that horrible night, were his run of luck at the Wheel of Fortune, and the mask.

The movie The Dead Zone is by far superior to the book. The book of course has more detail and characters, but the book's characters are boring. Martin Sheen as Greg Stillson was a perfect fit. The changes in the story, (without giving away the movie), where much better in the movie than in the book. A fun suggestion, read the book, and then watch the movie. See if I'm right.

The Dead Zone, which I first read back in late 1979, and have read into double digits over the years, was a novel I really wanted to hear as an audiobook. I drive a lot for pleasure from one end of the country to the other. Side to side and top to bottom. So having a nice book to listen to is something I look forward to when I'm on the road. Unfortunately, this is not a book that I will be.

Click here to read my review of the book. So the Dead Zone is about a young man, named Johnny, who has arisen from a five year coma and has realized that he has psychic abilities. Although he sees it as a curse he does use his power to further the greater good. The movie stars Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, Brooke Adams as well as other actors. I wasn’t too keen on Walken playing the part.
